I admit it. I’m a BIG fan of Brussels sprouts.
Phew! It’s a relief to get that off my chest.
I look forward eagerly to Brussels sprout season every year, and there’s nothing I like more for dinner than a big bowl of steamed Brussels sprouts.
Especially at this time of year, when it’s SO cold outside.
I used to eat my Brussels sprouts drowned in butter (or margarine), but these days I prefer mine seasoned lightly with a pinch of pink salt.
If you asked me why I love them, I’d say it’s their flavour, and yet that’s what puts most people off.
What can I say? I love the way they taste. Yum. Yum. Yum.
My dad had a big veggie patch when we were growing up, so I used to eat our veggies straight off the bush, while I was waiting to finish the watering.
I’m not sure if that’s where my love of Brussels sprouts came from, but I do remember being looked at strangely by my friends in high school when I polished off my plateful and offered to eat theirs as well.
I learned that liking Brussels sprouts was not something to be talked of in polite society.
But these days I’m loving the fact that I can eat as many of them as I like (minus the strange looks), and that I get to share the joy with you.
And I’m also passing on the love to my 4yo, who asks to share them with me every night.
Gotta love it.
Oh, and apparently brussels sprouts are really good for you too, as if that mattered!
